Board Position Details

Deep appreciation of the arts especially concerning youth and music education. Ability to participate in and/or lead fundraising efforts. Managerial and/or executive experience with a focus on strategic/policy needs versus operational items. Well connected with the general community with ties to various local businesses. Females and minorities are encouraged to apply.

  • Board Term: One-year term (ability to renew)
  • Financial Contribution: Board members are required to fundraise on the organization's behalf.
  • Faith-based Organization: We are not a faith-based organization.
  • Skills: appreciation for music education, embraces diversity, fundraiser, risk management experience, strategic thinker, well connected with communit

Notes:

Board meetings are held virtually, once a month, via WebEx or Conference call.  In-person meetings are held 3 times a year.  At-large members are appointed to a 1-year term and are eligible to renew for subsequent terms if they wish.  Those with a minimum of 1-year of experience on the board are eligible for an elected position. Elected members commit to a 3-year term.  Board members are expected to:  Attend at least 70% of board meetings,  actively participate, provide input. Read/digest most material provided for the meeting. Participate on a Board committee. Some participation with fundraising or in-kind support activities. Present ideas, raise concerns and offer solutions in a professional and constructive manner.   Represent the FPA vision and mission within your sphere of influence.


About Forward Performing Arts, Inc.

Forward Performing Arts, Inc. (FPA), is a Madison, Wisconsin based 501(c)3. Its mission is to provide programs for youth in music and performance training through a positive environment that emphasizes character and social development, leadership, self-discipline, and the pursuit of excellence. 

Forward Performing Arts carries out its mission by supporting 4 programs—  the Black Star Drum Line, Fleurish Winds, Mad Brass, and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.

Black Star Drum Line is a percussion-centric group that provides youth in the Madison community with an opportunity for creative expression through the percussive arts. Founded in 2008, Black Star Drum Line emphasizes the core elements of diversity, unity, mastery, respect for self and others. In 2018 Black Star Drum Line was awarded the Madison Area Music Association Award for “Best Youth Band.” 

Fleurish Winds is a winter marching arts ensemble that competes in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Winds division. Fleurish Winds offers its members an outstanding educational experience in music, movement, and performance. 

Mad Brass is a Drum Corps International (DCI) SoundSport group that focuses on skills and performance development for members ages 15-20, utilizing a top-rate staff of local music educators. Mad Brass performed at several Madison-area events, took the stage at the Milwaukee Summerfest, and competed in the DCI SoundSport competition in Indianapolis, IN, receiving an excellent Gold rating. 

Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps are world famous and World Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, they are one of the thirteen founding Drum Corps International (DCI) member corps. Forging past its humble beginnings, the Madison Scouts has established itself as a premier youth performing arts organization on the modern drum and bugle corps scene. 

The Unofficial Mantra of the corps is “Proud, Loud and Pleasing the Crowd.” The Scouts are known for their entertainment-focused programs that consistently bring audiences to their feet. They maintain a diverse membership with performers joining the corps from around the globe. Today’s scouts boast 154 performing members selected from an audition process that spans several months.
