About Friends of Schumacher Farm Park

The focus of the Friends board is to forward Marcella Schumacher's mission for her living farm museum that involves preservation, restoration and educational elements, representing early rural life during the 1920s - 1930s. As one of Dane County's historic parks, the land, 100 yr. old farmhouse and historic barn belong to Dane County. There is also a 5-acre restored tallgrass prairie on the property. The Friends Board of Directors sets policy, planning and development for the events and programming that happen at the park, as well as operation and maintenance of the other farm buildings and budgeting for staff. Currently, there are 3 large events and a series of heritage workshops and family friendly outings on the yearly calendar. The Center for Rural History will be the main visitor's center building at the farm, set to open in spring of 2019.
