Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin

The Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin is a non-profit organization that is largely volunteer run. Our mission is to improve the lives of those affected by autism spectrum disorders throughout the lifespan. We are dedicated to improving the lives of all who are impacted by autism spectrum disorders by providing information, resources, and support while raising awareness and acceptance in our community. We are proud to be one of the few organizations to have members with autism serving as active board directors.

Summary

As one of the oldest local chapters in the country, we have been supporting individuals and families affected by autism and the professionals who assist them since 1969. We serve South Central Wisconsin with reach into Southwest Wisconsin. Our ten country service area is Dane, Columbia, Sauk, Iowa, Rock, Green, Lafayette, Grant, Richland and Crawford counties.

Our programming focuses on education, advocacy, information/referral resources, workshops, support groups, and social/networking opportunities. Through programs and activities such as Autism 101, IEP Advocacy, Autism Society Support Groups, the AUsome Social Group (ages 12+), monthly Board Game Night for Teens and Adults, Football Camp (grades K-12), Annual Picnic, informational workshops and Mom’s/Dad’s Night Out we are supporting and strengthening the lives of South Central and Southwest Wisconsin children and families affected by autism spectrum disorders.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that the occurrence of autism spectrum disorder is 1 in 59 children. Based on the 2017 US Census population data for our service area and the 1:59 factor the number of people with autism in our service area is approximately 16, 661. Our goal is to reach more children, families, and adults in our ten county service area.

Board Position

We are looking to add new board members to our existing team to help us achieve our mission to improve the lives of those affected by autism spectrum disorders throughout the lifespan and achieve our goal to reach more children, families, and adults in our ten county service area. Our ideal candidates will be energetic and ready to actively participate in effective planning and delivery of programs and services to respond to the needs of families and individuals impacted by autism spectrum disorders. Marketing, event promotion, and networking skills are desired.
